Quilted Maple Lidded Bowl

$850.00

This turned wooden stave bowl is made of quilted maple, SpectraPly, and dyed veneer and has an ebony knob.

Turned stave bowls are Ted’s specialty. By “stave bowl” we mean vertical pieces of wood that are glued together to form a blank, which is turned on a wood lathe. You can read more about how Ted uses this process in our article on Turned Wooden Stave Bowls.

This was one of the nicest pieces of quilted maple we have come across. Quilted maple is highly prized by instrument makers, especially for electric guitars. The quilted maple used for this bowl exhibits an amazing level of chatoyancy — an optical illusion caused by light rays that strike fine undulating grains in the wood and give the lines a 3D or moving effect.

This bowl is protected by many coats of a durable gloss polyurethane finish, wet sanded between coats, for a mirror-like finish.

Dimensions:  7 inches at its widest point and 7 inches tall.

Use and care:  Dust and fingerprints can be removed with a soft cloth.  Please do not use this bowl to hold anything that retains moisture.
