Recently one of our repeat customers contacted us. He had admired a pepper mill in our Store and asked if Ted could turn a salt shaker to match it. This is exactly the type of challenge that Ted enjoys. We welcome special orders, and Ted is glad to create custom pieces using the customer’s choice of design and materials.

Cherry Pepper Mill with Matching Salt Shaker
In this case, the challenge was to turn a shaker in an unusual shape. The original mill, nicknamed Rosie from a reference to the household robot in the animated sitcom “The Jetsons,” had an unusual neck between the top and bottom parts of the mill.

The Original “Rosie” Mill
While he was able to replicate the shape so that the salt shaker would complement the mill, he found that the inserts he usually orders didn’t result in the smooth, rounded top that he wanted for the shaker.
Problem solved: He simply ordered different project supplies, including a low-profile cap and a rubber bung for the bottom of the shaker.
It turned out that our good customer liked the set so much he ordered two!
